A meeting was held at An-Najah National University bringing together Teach For Palestine, represented by Dima Shahrour, Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Mahmoud Sammar, Programs Assistant in the Northern West Bank, and An-Najah National University, represented by Dr. Abdulkhaleq Issa, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences; Prof. Saed Al-Khayyat, Assistant to the Academic Vice President for the International Virtual University; and Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of An-Najah Training Academy, Prof. Suhail Salha. The meeting aimed to discuss ways of strengthening mutual cooperation.
The meeting began with welcoming remarks, followed by a presentation delivered by Shahrour outlining the organization’s work, vision, and mission, in addition to introducing the Educational and Leadership Capacity Building Program for lower primary school teachers (Grades 1–4), which aims to contribute to providing high-quality and inclusive school education for students in Palestine. Mahmoud Sammar also presented the New Graduates Capacity Building Program, highlighting the outcomes of the first and second cohorts and its impact on developing participants’ skills and enhancing their professional opportunities.
During the meeting, discussions addressed the importance of professionalizing teaching, strengthening integration between universities and civil society organizations, advancing the digitalization of education, and keeping pace with modern trends such as climate education. The discussion also emphasized developing pathways for supportive education to enhance inclusive teaching practices, while stressing the importance of strengthening the practical component of graduates’ preparation.
For his part, Dr. Abdulkhaleq Issa welcomed the idea of partnership with Teach For Palestine, affirming the university’s commitment to supporting initiatives that serve students and graduates and enhance their readiness for the labor market. In turn, Prof. Saed Al-Khayyat emphasized the importance of developing academic and training cooperation pathways, particularly in the field of supportive education, through the development of curricula and training programs that support inclusive education and address the needs of students with disabilities.
Both parties agreed on several areas of cooperation, most notably enhancing applied research related to the organization’s programs, encouraging An-Najah National University students and graduates to enroll in Teach For Palestine programs, accrediting the organization as an approved host institution for practical training and volunteer placements, and collaborating on the development of courses and curricula in the field of supportive education to strengthen inclusive educational practices.
