The Translation Society, under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs and in cooperation with the Department of English, organized a distinguished student debate in English on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The event was attended by a number of faculty members and students from the Department of English in an interactive academic atmosphere that reflected the spirit of constructive dialogue and intellectual openness, in line with the university’s vision of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly interactive and creative education


The event, which was held at the Zafer Al-Masri Auditoriums on the Old Campus, commenced with a welcoming speech delivered by Dana Ammar, President of the Translation Society. In her remarks, she welcomed the attending students and faculty members and emphasized the importance of such activities in supporting the academic environment and refining the personality of university students. The debate was also attended by the Head of the Department of English, Dr. Mohammed Hamdan, as well as Dr. Ahmad Qabaha, Dr. Sufyan Abuarrah, the Society’s supervisor Ms. Reem Qadan, and Ms. Iman Hammad, in addition to representatives from the Deanship of Student Affairs
The debate was held under the motion: No person under the age of 13 should be allowed to use social media platforms.” Students approached the issue from multiple perspectives, presenting arguments both in favor of and against the motion in a scientific and methodical manner that reflected an advanced level of analysis and the ability to formulate and refute arguments effectively. The debate aimed to develop students’ critical thinking skills, enhance their abilities in public speaking and persuasion, and encourage them to express and defend their opinions confidently within a civilized framework grounded in mutual respect. Such extracurricular activities constitute an essential component of the educational process, as they contribute to bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application, while also fostering communication and teamwork skills. Furthermore, they prepare students for active engagement in society and the labor market. These events reaffirm the role of universities in shaping an aware generation capable of dialogue, analysis, and adopting informed positions toward contemporary issues
